Build'N Shop: Docu Screening with Cue!

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

Tonight at 5pm we'll go live with Build'N Shop, a mini documentary featuring executive direction by Quilan "Cue" Arnold. As SUNY Brockport’s Department of Dance continues to navigate it’s 10-day virtual workshop with guest artists from New York City and beyond, we are thrilled to present the first in a series of evening PUBLIC STREAMING EVENTS.

Tonight, beginning at 5pm we’ll have access to a brand new documentary created by Executive Director Quilan “Cue” Arnold. In the name of gratitude, Build’N Shop showcases the importance of 5 American street/club dance elders through verbal and embodied narratives told by some of today’s prominent New York City street/club dance leaders. After the mini documentary, we’ll come together to talk with Arnold to hear about the making of this project and his own experiences of coming up in the street and club dance community.

IT ALL STARTED WHEN…

two more significant street dance pioneers passed away, leaving another gaping void within the street dance community. Since, there have been numerous parties to honor Marjory Smarth (d.2015) and Raymond Ultarte— better known as Voodoo Ray (d.2017). However, these beautiful events have foregrounded the ultimate question, why did we not celebrate them before they left us? It is in response to this question that we present “Build’N Shop”, a mini documentary project that serves to uplift the elders of street dance through interviews and dance films.

Although this is a FREE event, we graciously request donations be made to Cue's chosen non-profit, the Ladies of Hip Hop.

While the documentary is still in negotiations for larger distribution (bravo, Build'N Shop team!), you can check out the conversation with co-producers Quilan "Cue" Arnold, Terry "Cebo" Carr, and David Castro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrfOTvxANn4&feature=youtu.be

**Just keep in mind this is an unedited take, so scroll forward to when the conversation begins!**
